OLIVER BULLOCK DESIGNS

Octave was a collaborative project that I created alongside fellow designer Kyle J Watson. We conceptualised Octave during lockdown in 2020. Covid-19 affected the way many businesses could operate, however the live music scene was particularly hit hard in this time. Smaller bands couldn't perform as supporting acts to gain traction in the industry and larger bands were finding it difficult to communicate with their fanbase with the absence of their shows.

Octave was our solution to this issue, in the hopes that it would give both small and larger bands an outlet to grow further when lockdown ended.

The idea of Octave was to create a social media app for bands and fans alike, that was a mix between Twitch, Spotify and Instagram. Bands could livestream performances with the option to charge a PPV, with the live performances there would be a chat function allowing fans to communicate with smaller bands and share the experience chatting with other fans in larger performances. An Octave+ feature would allow users to stream music and podcasts with a similar model to Spotify.

Bands would also have a profile page, in which they could post updates with their following and sell their merch/albums straight away on the platform.
